Girl Power! Meet My Summer 2019 Interns!

I cant believe that it is already Summer! I need time to slow down a bit. Growing up I loved summer because it meant school was out, but now as an adult, it means the year is half over which is terrifying. One thing I love about summer is I get to help students follow their dreams. I have mentored over 50 people at this point in my career, which makes me so happy. Some of my past interns are out there in the world kicking major butt, and I am so proud to be part of their journey.

I believe in girl power, and that together we can do anything! I have heard so many different thoughts on having interns, and I will say that fortunately, I have only had a handful of terrible ones (I had to fire one once). For the most part, the young women (and 2 men) I have had as interns were eager to learn and wanted to contribute. My favorite thing is when my old interns call or stop by and I get to hear all about their fabulous adventures as adults in the workforce. I always feel like such a proud mama bird every time they come back to celebrate their success with me.

This summer, I am blessed to be able to work with some amazing young women! Not only are they all extremely passionate, but they are kind and smart! Talk about winning the intern jackpot! I want to give them each an opportunity to have a moment to shine because they totally deserve it.

They were each asked the following questions, and here are their responses. I am so thankful to have them with us in the studio and to be able to help them learn & grow so that they can take over the world! I am so excited for you to meet my summer 2019 interns!

Each intern was asked the following questions:

What made you choose to intern at The House of Perna?

What do you hope to get out of your internship?

What is your favorite piece in the studio?

Here are their answers:

Why I intern here : I admire small business’s and how Amanda started her brands from scratch on her own. I love the fashion industry and getting to experience what Amanda does first hand and all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes is very inspiring.

Hope to learn : I hope to learn more about fashion design and how Amanda starts her new collection. I also am excited for upcoming projects Amanda is doing such as DIY’s for her blog.

Hi everyone I’m Ashley Leong! I’m a student at the University of Florida and I’m interning with Amanda this summer on her marketing and social media team! This summer I really wanted to learn more about fashion branding, social media and fashion business. I knew that I was going to be down in West Palm Beach for the summer so I made sure to research fashion related internship in south Florida. My passions lie in storytelling, branding, and fashion public relations so I was so excited when I found Amanda’s internship program. I loved how her company focused on empowering women to find their best selves through vibrant style and color. I hope to learn more about business and personal branding as well as styling and public relations.  My favorite piece would be Camila, the woven palm leaf backpack! I love how the products here are extremely eco-friendly yet still lively and vibrant.

What you hope to learn?
A: I hope to learn how to start and run my own business and what it takes for it to become successful.
My Favorite piece

When I discovered The House of Perna on Instagram I was drawn to the bright colors and silhouettes the brand carries. I am studying Fashion and Design at The Savannah College of Arts and Design. Interning with The House of Perna will prepare me for my senior year as well as a successful Fashion Designer. I would love to open a Boutique on my own in the future, so being able to see how Amanda works as a Designer and how she sells her products will help me open my own Boutique! During my internship I want to learn how to come up with stronger concepts for a collection. At SCAD we are constantly coming up with concepts for a project in a short period of time and I feel like they could be stronger given more time. When my internship ends, I want to walk about being a better Fashion Designer. I’m a girl who loves color, so it was difficult finding my favorite piece on the rack. The first thing that caught my eye was the Roxanne Dress. It’s an off the shoulder ombre dress and is full of color and is perfect for walking on the beach. I picture myself wearing on a girls night out with my friends walking downtown. Interning here at House of Perna has been one of the best decisions I have made, and I can’t wait to learn new things and share them to the world!
