5 Things Every Emerging Designer Needs To Know
Today I wanted to take a minute and offer my lovely emerging designers some advice. I know it can be a difficult road at times, but I promise you it is all worth it in the end. The journey you will experience plays a huge roll in the designer you will become.
I think it might be useful if I share a little bit of my journey with you. Before graduating college I was offered a job at Calvin Klein. Such a dream role right, and gosh I am forever grateful.
But, I couldn’t help feeling like I wasn’t fulfilling my purpose. I wanted to create what I wanted to see in the world! I wanted to create whimsical and bold clothing and accessories.
So, against so many people’s advice that is exactly what I did. I created The House of Perna. I have cried, laughed, and cried some more. But, like I said its all been worth it! So here are some of the things I want you all to know as you continue to emerge as your very own designer.
Believe in yourself! It all starts with you! I mean if you don’t believe, how can you expect anyone else too?
Owning a business is a complete rollercoaster. I have days when things go smoothly and everything is amazing. Then I have those days when everything in the world seems to be going wrong. Keep the faith because some how it always works out.
When you get big enough you will be knocked off. It is just part of the game, and unfortunately there isn’t much you can do about it. I have seen my work sold by a ton of other brands, and it is a terrible feeling. But, you can create something new and better!
The excitement of seeing your products in a store, magazine or on a person never gets old. It is a huge high that cannot really be explained.
Building a great team in the beginning is crucial to your success. Wasting money on the wrong people will cause your business to stay stagnant or even go under. The right people will push you and help your business to grow beyond your wildest dreams!
I am going to make a video that dives deeper into my personal and business journey and what it all has taught me. Make sure you follow me on social media to stay on top of my new posts and videos!
